Subject areas covered at Ogmore Centre include:

Literacy

Writers in Residents, supported by grant funding from Academi Cymru, lead all literacy courses at Ogmore. With the wealth of experience provided by our artists, young people on the course undertake short sessions in 'Story Telling', 'Song Writing' and 'Poetry'. On the last morning of the course all the young people have the opportunity to share their work either individually or as a group at the 'sharing session'.

We regularly combine educational classroom courses with use of IT skills. In IT and maths, young people have the opportunity to build their IT skills whilst undertaken maths quizzes and problems via educational websites.

Geography and Environmental Studies

Ogmore Centre is situated on the Glamorganshire Coastline between Cardiff, (Wales' Capital City with it's newly developed Bay Area and soon to open Millennium Centre), to the east and Swansea (with it's magnificent Gower  Coastline) to the west. Within hiking distance of the Centre we have both Dunraven Castle and Gardens and Ogmore Castle: quarries also surround the area. These wonderful assets on our doorstep make Ogmore Centre Trust an ideally situated centre from which geography and environmental field trips can be undertaken. In 2003, Ogmore Centre received funding to employ an Eco Heritage Development Officer, Mr Tim Jarvis, it is part of his role to write and lead geography, environmental and heritage courses for the young people attending the Centre.

As the once popular song says 'A little bit of this and a little bit of that' sums up our multidisciplinary course. This course  is aimed at the younger pupils (year 4 ) who will not be old enough to come on some of our main stream courses but will be future residents. The course aims to give these young people a taste of the whole range of courses held at the Centre. All the young people attending this course have an opportunity to try  taster sessions covering the following subjects: literacy, mathematics, IT, geography, environmental studies and team sports. This course is a great way of introducing young people to their first residential experience, with an emphasis on learning by having fun.
